Meet the Composer
Caleb Pickering (b. 1990) is an acclaimed composer whose works are performed globally and have become staples in percussion repertoire. He's been a finalist for the American Prize in Composition for An Assembly of Outrage and Beneath, and served as composer-in-residence for the World Percussion Group International Tour (2019). His compositions are regularly commissioned by universities, professional ensembles, and soloists worldwide.
Composition Notes
"RUST (2025) is a solo multi-percussion work commissioned by Black Swamp Percussion that blends driving groove with shifting meters, finesse, and bold timbral exploration. Scored primarily for instruments made by Black Swamp Percussion, the piece revolves around the sonic contrast between the warm tone of Maple Wood Blocks and the beautiful and raw sound of the Anvil Gong Sound Plate, inspiring both the title and the character of the work."
