Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Zachary Mathes is an accomplished timpanist and educator who was appointed Principal Timpanist of the Billings Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and also serves as Principal Timpanist for the Butler County Symphony Orchestra. An active and versatile performer, he has played with ensembles such as the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the Pittsburgh-based new music group, NAT28. Zachary holds an Artist’s Diploma from Duquesne University, a Master’s of Music from Sam Houston State University, and a Bachelor’s of Music from Oberlin College and Conservatory. He maintains a private teaching studio, assists with local high school percussion programs, serves as the Adjunct Professor of Percussion at Waynesburg University, and is a proud endorser of Innovative Percussion and Drum Dial.
