Howard Community College

Honored as the 2016 Arts and Humanities Adjunct Faculty of the Year, Tim McKay is a dynamic percussionist and educator serving on the faculty at Howard Community College. In addition to directing the Drummin' Dragons Percussion Camp, he is the long-time percussion coach for the Howard County Youth Orchestra, mentoring numerous students into successful musical careers. An active performer, Mr. McKay is the section percussionist/assistant timpanist with the Apollo Orchestra and has appeared with ensembles such as the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. His diverse career also includes a televised performance with American Idol winner Phillip Phillips for PBS’s A Capitol Fourth celebration. He holds a Master of Music from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory and is a member of the Vic Firth and Black Swamp education teams.
