Lamon Lawhorn, a native of Fort Worth, TX, holds a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Prairie View A&M University, a Master’s in Percussion Performance from the University of Mississippi—where he was the first African-American percussionist to win the UM Concerto Competition—and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has performed extensively as a classical percussionist and drum set artist, including principal roles in various orchestras and collaborations with recording artists and touring bands. Lamon is active in the Percussive Arts Society, serving as President-Elect, and is a sought-after clinician and adjudicator nationally and internationally. He is currently Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Percussion Studies at Virginia State University, previously serving in key roles at North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central University. Lamon is also a composer and endorsed artist for multiple percussion brands. He lives in Moseley, Virginia with his family.
