Percussionist, Kyle Acuncius, has performed and taught internationally over his twenty-year professional career. He is currently Principal Timpanist with the Sun Symphony Orchestra based in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Prior to joining the Sun Symphony, Kyle served as Artist and Director of Percussion Studies at Mahidol University and Principal Timpanist of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok, Thailand. He has also previously held positions as Principal Percussionist of the Terre Haute Symphony and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra.
In Vietnam, Kyle enjoys a varied musical career outside of orchestral performances. He is a currently an ensemble member of Suc Song Moi bamboo ensemble and traditional orchestra, Zamina Afro-Beat band, percussionist with the Vietnam National Ballet and Orchestra’s long running production of Les Miserables, and is a recurring guest artist with concert series from Schubert in a Mug and Maestoso School of Music.
Kyle holds both a post-graduate Specialist degree and Masters of Music degree in chamber music from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance, a second Masters of Music degree in percussion performance from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, a Bachelors of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music and was a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy.
