Described as "hypnotic, enthralling…dynamic" by Oregon ArtsWatch, Dr. Christopher Whyte is a percussionist, composer, and educator known for his wide-ranging artistry. He serves as the Percussion Area Coordinator at Portland State University and is an active performer with the Oregon Symphony, contributing to two of their Grammy-nominated recordings. A dedicated chamber musician, Dr. Whyte is a founding member of the Portland Percussion Group and performs with the Third Angle New Music Ensemble. His international work includes serving as a founding member and resident faculty of the International Percussion Institute in Scotland, and he recently released his debut solo album, "Cold Stability," on New Focus Recordings. Currently President of the Oregon Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, he holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University, where he studied with Boston Symphony Principal Timpanist Timothy Genis, and is a performing artist for Yamaha, Vic Firth, and Zildjian.
