Dr. Christian Swafford is a versatile percussion artist and educator with a strong focus on collaborative projects and new percussion works. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Kentucky, and both a Master of Music and Bachelor of Music in Education from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Christian’s performance experience spans orchestral, experimental, and world percussion, including appearances at the Big Ears Festival, PASIC showcases, and international steel pan workshops. He has taught and directed concert and marching ensembles across the Southeast and served as adjunct professor at Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky. Currently, he is the percussion coordinator at East Tennessee State University and principal percussionist with the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra. His research integrates neuroscience with percussion pedagogy to enhance coordination and learning.
