An award-winning percussionist and composer, Dr. Carlos Camacho serves as a professor of percussion at the University of Panama, where he has also held roles as director of the Music Department and the School of Instrumental Studies. His distinguished performance career includes a Grammy and two Latin Grammys for his work on the album Salswing! with Rubén Blades, an Emmy award, and appearances with the Louisville Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Americas, and at numerous international music festivals. A dedicated advocate for new music, Dr. Camacho has won multiple composition competitions, founded the avant-garde percussion group “3(r) Three by Radio,” and has had numerous works written for him. He holds a doctorate in percussion from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, is a recipient of a research grant from Panama's National Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation (SENACYT), and serves as the president of the Panama chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. His compositions are published by Cayambis Music Press, and he is an artist for Dream Cymbals and Gongs.
