| Dr. Jonathan Shapiro is an advocate for new music and an active performer of solo and chamber works for percussion. He is the percussionist for the Hamburg based new music groups Ensemble Integrales and Ensemble Wireworks as well as the Lubeck based group Neue Musik im Ostseeraum. Jonathan appears frequently as a guest with such ensembles as Ensemble Resonanz, Alarm Will Sound, Reflexion K, Signal, and Newband. He has previously performed with groups such as Bang on a Can, Argento Chamber Ensemble, Talujon, Red Light New Music, Percussion Group Lugano, International Ensemble Modern Akademie, and the Percussionists of the New York Philharmonic. He holds degrees from Interlochen Arts Academy (HS), Manhattan School of Music (BM), SUNY Stony Brook (MM, DMA) and the Musikhochschule Lubeck (Advanced Studies). |
