| Global Percussion Trio was founded in 1994 by Barry Dove with the focus on exploring world music through percussion. Particular interests include frame drums such as the middle Eastern Riq and Duff, the Irish Bodhran, the North African Bendir and Tar, the Chinese Gavel and the South Indian Kanjira. Other focuses include African Drumming, Japanese Daiko, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Trinidad & Tobago, North Indian Tabla, American ragtime and jazz.
The credentials of the trio's members include studies at the Peabody Conservatory of Music, Temple University, University of Michigan, Berklee School of Music, University of Ghana in Accra and University de la Havana in Cuba. Members perform with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, Key West Symphony Orchestra, Washington Contemporary Music Forum, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and the National Theatre in Washington DC. Currently, members of the trio teach at University of Maryland (UMBC) and Loyola University.
