Eric Willie is the Assistant Professor of Percussion in the School of Music and Art at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN. Prior to this position, Eric lived in Denton, TX where he taught at Texas Woman’s University and was pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of North Texas.

Mr. Willie has performed as an extra percussionist with the Nashville Symphony, the Bowling Green Symphony, the Beloit-Janesville Symphony and the Lexington Philharmonic. As a member of the University of North Texas Wind Symphony, he recorded alongside marimba virtuosos Keiko Abe and Mark Ford as well as recording with his contemporary percussion ensemble, the Bain Percussion Group. In addition, he has appeared at the World Saxophone Congress, the Bands of American National Percussion Festival and most recently at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.

He has directed the percussion studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Austin College as well as serving as a percussion specialist for the Sherman Independent School District and Newman Smith High School. Additionally, he has arranged and/or taught for the University of North Texas drum line, the University of Kentucky drum line and for such drum corps as the Madison Scouts, Carolina Crown, Americanos and Southwind.

He has presented clinics throughout the Midwest and Southeastern United States and his articles have appeared in The Instrumentalist and Percussive Notes. Additionally, he has contributed educational resources for Sabian Cymbals, Black Swamp Percussion and Innovative Percussion, Inc.

Mr. Willie is currently pursuing his DMA at the University of North Texas where he has studied with Christopher Deane, Mark Ford, Paul Rennick and Ed Soph. He completed his MM at the University of Kentucky under James Campbell and his BS in Music Education from Austin Peay State University where he studied with David Steinquest.
