An Active performer of new music, Scott Deal has been featured at venues in London, Boston, Washington DC, Moscow, Russia, as well as throughout the United States. Described as a soloist who delivers “a riveting performance”, he has appeared at the Sub Tropics New Music Festival, May in Miami, SEAMUS International Electronic Music Conference, College Music Society National Conference, and several Percussive Arts Society International Conventions. Continually inspired by new and emerging artistic technologies, he is a founding member of ART GRID, an Internet2-based telematic performing collective. In this capacity he has performed at Supercomputing Global, SIGGRAPH, and with groups that include Another Language and the Helsinki Computer Orchestra.

Scott holds a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Miami, a Master of Music degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cameron University. Dr. Deal was an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Research Associate at the Arctic Region Supercomputing Center from 1995 to 2007. Mr. Deal is now on faculty at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, IN where he also serves as Director of the Donald Tavel Arts and Technology Research Center. He also serves on the faculty of New England Conservatory’s Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, and is the coordinator for the Alaska Summer Percussion Institute at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival.
