"Great instruments made by great people, what more could you ask for?"

Coalescence is a percussion duo comprised of musicians Judy Moonert and Gregrey Secor, who have played together for over fifteen years in a variety of musical settings, ranging from the symphony hall to contemporary mixed instrument and percussion chamber ensembles. Coalescence originally grew out of desire to fuse and explore percussion duo music in-depth, whose roots began with a 1999 performance of Luciano Berio’s Circles.

In addition to performances as Coalescence, the duo is an integral part of the award-winning Opus 21 – Music Without Boundaries, performing duo percussion works as well as premiering ensemble compositions ranging from jazz, classical, rock, to world music.

Judy Moonert is director of percussion studies at Western Michigan University and Principal Percussionist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Under her direction, the WMU Percussion Ensemble presented a showcase concert at the 1998 PASIC. She adjudicated the 1998 Percussive Arts Society Composition Competition, presented a FUNdamentals clinic at 1999 PASIC, and performed at the 2002 PASIC "Focus Day".

Gregrey Secor is on the faculty of Grand Valley State University and Hope College, where he is director of the above University’s Percussion Ensembles, the Steelband (GVSU) and teaches applied percussion and courses in music literature. He is a member of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and frequently performs with the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra. He is active as a steeldrum performer with his group Pangea throughout the Midwest. At the 2005 PASIC, he premiered A Robe of Orange Flame by Christopher Deane and also performed at the 2001 PASIC " Focus Day".
