Andy Bliss, Steve Lundin, John Pobojewski and Pat Schleker formed the Base4 Percussion Quartet as a chamber group that performs demanding, high quality literature for Western and non-Western percussion. They entertain their audiences with energetic works accompanied by visual interactive multimedia.
Base4 melds classical precision, contemporary improvisation, and chamber ensemble interpretation to create their unique sonic persona. This distinctive character stems from the members' experiences in African, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Caribbean and north Indian musical traditions - all influences that shine through in the group's interpretations of repertoire standards, original compositions and arrangements.
Members of Base4 have performed in venues across the United States including Carnegie Hall in New York City, Chicago's Orchestra Hall, as well as international venues in Seoul, South Korea and Port of Spain, Trinidad. The quartet also won the opportunity to perform a showcase concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in November of 2003.
The quartet recorded their debut CD in 2004, entitled One, featuring original arrangements of compositions by Rouse, Ponty, Ravel and more. It is available for purchase through their website, www.base4percussion.com.
